📌 About the Role
University of Johannesburg is seeking to appoint General Cleaners (x2 posts) within the Facilities Management Division at the Soweto Campus (Devland).
The role focuses on maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across campus facilities, ensuring a safe and pleasant environment for students, staff, and visitors.
This position may require night work depending on operational needs.
🧹 Key Responsibilities
- Sweep floors using brushes and dust-control mops
- Mop floors using wet and damp cleaning methods
- Clean carpets using suction equipment and spot-cleaning methods
- Operate scrubbing and polishing machines (after training)
- Dust, wipe, and polish furniture and surfaces
- Empty and manage waste bins and transport waste to disposal points
- Replenish consumables such as soap, toilet paper, and paper towels
- Clean toilets, sinks, urinals, showers, and drinking fountains
- Perform wall washing and window cleaning within safe height limits
- Mix and use cleaning chemicals according to instructions
- Report faulty equipment, hazards, or maintenance issues

- Follow all health and safety regulations
- Adhere to fire and emergency procedures
- Use protective clothing and uniforms when required
- Ensure equipment and work areas are secure and clean
- Promote safe working practices

- Perform assigned cleaning tasks as instructed
- Maintain cleanliness standards in allocated areas

🎓 Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 10 qualification
- NQF Level 1 Vocational Certificate
- Relevant cleaning experience
- Proof of residence in Devland (mandatory requirement)
🌟 Recommendations
- Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) is an advantage
- At least 1 year cleaning experience preferred
- Basic knowledge of cleaning procedures
