The South African Medical Research Council is recruiting a Junior Scientist to support the Clinical Trial Registry Project under Cochrane South Africa. The project focuses on strengthening research transparency and developing links with the Pan African Clinical Trials Registry (PACTR).
Key Responsibilities
Project Support
- Assist with implementation of the SECRET project
- Help develop and revise SOPs and workflows
- Coordinate stakeholder workshops and consultations
- Conduct data collection activities
- Prepare reports and website updates
- Support development of registry tools and templates
- Draft presentations and training materials
Research Administration
- Assist with research reports and publications
- Perform quality control checks on research documentation
- Transcribe workshop and meeting recordings
- Coordinate meetings and filing systems
- Distribute project promotional materials
Data Management & Analysis
- Support data collection and curation
- Conduct data entry, cleaning, and verification
- Analyse research data using Excel and basic tools
- Identify research topics from trial data
Minimum Requirements
- 4-year qualification in:
- Life Sciences
- Epidemiology
- Or related field
- Basic understanding of scientific research methods
- 1–2 years’ experience in:
- Research
- Data collection
- Health project implementation
- Ability to follow scientific protocols and ethical standards
Advantageous Qualifications & Skills
- Honours or Master’s coursework
- Experience with:
- Data transcription
- Qualitative or quantitative data handling
- Strong organisational and administrative skills
- Attention to detail
