The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) is inviting qualifying students from Johannesburg communities to apply for the Student Internship Programme 2026 within the Human Settlements Department.
This internship opportunity is aimed at students and graduates who require practical workplace experience as part of their academic qualification or experiential learning programme. The internship will provide valuable exposure to public housing projects, project coordination, construction management, and municipal development initiatives.
Successful candidates will be placed at the Human Settlements Department in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, for a period not exceeding 18 months.

About the Internship Programme
The City of Johannesburg Student Internship Programme is designed to equip students and recent graduates with practical skills and workplace experience in the public sector.
Interns will work closely with professionals involved in housing development projects and municipal infrastructure programmes while gaining insight into project management, procurement processes, housing administration, and service delivery within local government.

Monthly Stipend
Successful candidates will receive the following remuneration:
Graduates
Applicants who have completed a qualification with a minimum of 360 credits will receive:
R10,109.86 per month
Students Requiring Experiential Learning
Applicants currently enrolled and requiring practical training will receive:
R3,500 per month
Please note that these stipends are paid as basic remuneration and do not include employee benefits.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a resident of the City of Johannesburg
- Have Grade 12 (Matric)
- Have one of the following qualifications:
- National Diploma in Town Planning
- Civil Engineering
- Project Management
- Construction Management
- Built Environment-related qualification at NQF Level 7
- OR possess an N6 qualification requiring in-service training
- Provide an official enrollment confirmation letter from the educational institution
- Have not previously participated in a City of Johannesburg internship programme
